General overview about CPD

Continuous Professional Development (CPD)

Continuous Professional Development (CPD) encompasses a range of learning activities that enable healthcare professionals to maintain and enhance their skills throughout their careers. This ensures they can practice safely, effectively, and legally within their scope of practice.

CPD includes all formal activities undertaken by healthcare professionals to update and develop their knowledge, skills, and attitudes in response to the evolving needs of public health services. It begins after the completion of basic or postgraduate training and continues throughout their professional lives.

The primary aim of CPD is to maintain and develop the competencies of individual healthcare professionals, ensuring they can meet the changing needs of patients and the healthcare system. This includes responding to new challenges posed by emerging and re-emerging health problems and scientific advancements.

Ultimately, CPD aims to improve the health status of citizens by delivering high-quality healthcare services through competent professionals. It also helps establish a CPD system in the country by outlining the accreditation process for CPD providers and linking CPD with the re-licensure of healthcare professionals.
